An exhibition documenting the history of Birmingham’s legendary Que Club is set to land in London this month, In The Que.

The exhibition, curated by Jez Collins, will open up at Crypt Gallery, which sits below St Pancras New Church in London, on December 1, and will remain open until December 4.

In The Que features photography, artefacts, films, flyers, ticket stubs, and personal accounts of clubbers who visited the seminal club between its opening in 1989, and its closure in 2017.

The exhibition travels from Birmingham, where it first opened in April displaying 10 of the 65 images captured by Terence Donovan at the 1996 event House Of God.

In The Que will also run in collaboration with AFFXWRKS, a clothing brand hosting music and design projects, throughout its four-day showing at Crypt Gallery.

During its tenure, Que Club hosted the likes of David Bowie, Massive Attack, Carl Cox, Mistress Mo, Surgeon, Andrew Weatherall, and legendary club nights including House Of God, Atomic Jam, and The Bubble Club.

Que Club also became the home of BBC Radio One’s Essential Mix nights and was the recording location of Daft Punk’s ‘Live’ album in 1997.

Earlier this year, a documentary celebrating the history of Que Club was released on YouTube, titled In The Que: Celebrating the Que Club.

The film followed the story of the club over the years, described in its synopsis as a “project explores the cultural heritage of one of Birmingham’s most iconic venues.”

Music historian Jez Collis said on the film: “This project will celebrate the pioneers of rave and dance culture in Birmingham and shine a light on a hidden history of Birmingham’s music heritage and culture.”
